Coco Coir Bricks
CocoLite Bricks come from coconut fiber and are a natural alternative to peat moss. They will never become hard like peat moss, and they rehydrate very easily. Nature’s perfect soil amendment, pure coconut coir retains water, keeps plant roots moist and aerates soil. Use straight for cutting propagation and seed germination or mix with potting soil to reduce watering. Also makes great worm bedding for vermicomposting. Nice and compact for storing. Compressed bricks expand to 1/3 cu. ft. of grow medium. Add 1 gallon of water per brick when ready to use. A Six-Pack of bricks (makes approx. 2 cubic feet.)
Some interesting facts about CocoLite Bricks
- Retains moisture and nutrients longer than regular soil
- An eco-friendly alternative to peat (which is a non renewable resource and habitat to many animals)
Can be used as the 'brown' ingredient to help feed your compost pile - Perfect soilless, sterile medium for starting seeds
- Helps break up clay soil
- Popular as starter worm bedding for a worm bin
- When geraniums, easter lilies, and poinsettias were grown using coconut coir based products instead of sphagnum peat-based media a 50% increase in root growth was observed.
- Unlike in the United states, tropical countries have been using coconut coir for a growing meda for many years. Some growers have used the husk whole or chopped as a substrate for orchids and ferns.
- Research has shown that roses root faster and more roots spread through the fine coir substrate. Rose production in the first year can be 10-15% higher with the use of coir. The cuttings pictured here were cut off the same old rosebush on the same day. Guess which one is started in the Cocolite Coir. Our own little experiment.
